Yestreday we took a short, but strenuous hike (about 5.2 miles round trip) to Bridal Wreath Falls in the Saguaro East National Park. It was 2.6 miles to the falls, with almost a 1,000' gain in elevation from the trailhead. Bart says that's about a 7% gradient. It surely seemed steep, especially the 1st mile was almost flat.
There wasn't as much water running as we had hoped, but worth the trip anyway. This saguaro is just a skeleton, but very photogenic and the ocotillo is beginning to leaf out (you have to look very closely between the thorns).
