Fremantle to John Williamson

This picture from Fremantle reminded me of Santa Barbara.
We drove north from Frematle, along the Indian Ocean, to Scarborough Beach.  We're staying here for a few days.  We cab take a bus into Perth (20 minutes).  Yesterday we went to the beach that's about 400 m from our place.  Views south, north and west from our spot on the beach.
The Quarry Amphitheatre, where the John Williamson concert was held, was only a 10 minute drive from where we're staying.  An outdoor concert in a small and amazing venue.
John coming on stage.
We brought food and wine and were enjoying ourselves (between two 1 1/2 hour sets).
After the concert.

Bunbury to Fremantle

Today, Monday, Nov.29, we drove from Bunbury, where we stayed at this hotel.
And next door was an interesting store.  Maybe "produce" is horse feed?
At Fremantle, we visited the Western Australian Maritime Museum.  Bart liked the picture of the 18' skiff with acres of sail area.
Interesting ships in the harbor.
We had fish and chips and beer on the fishing warf nearby, just in time for sunset.

More Big Trees, Oceans, and a Kangaroo

If you haven't checked in a while, I've put up about 4 or 5 posts in the last couple of days and I'm finally caught up. The trees are either Tingle or Karri and the ocean is the Southern Ocean, and the kangaroo just popped up in the bush as we were walking back from the beach.
This is one tree, but manages to grow because the living tissue is just inside the bark - amazing.
We took the WOW boat cruise through a bay and then hiked to this beach.
Along this trail.
We ran into this kangaroo on another path to another beach.  On seeing us, it went into the bush.

Catching Up from Southwestern Australia

Finally, we're back in internet land - at least for the night.  We stayed in a cute little cottage (with a veranda out the front).
A wood burning stove inside and alpacas outside.
Then we visited a Tingle Tree forest, where we walked the Treetop Walk.
Looking straight through and straight down!
Pretty cool looking at trees from, almost, treetop level.
Theses were some pretty big trees.

South Australia

We drove through beautiful karri forests.
There was even a tree to climb.
The tree was 68 m. tall.
Here's Bart at his highest point (about 15 - 30 rungs up).
There were beautiful birds, who were extremely friendly. This is a Western Rosella.
And a juvenile, female, Red-Capped Parrot.

Dunsborough to Pemberton

I'm trying to catch up, but at the slow internet speed it's bnot possible.  This is all for now.
On Wednesday Nov. 24, we drove south from Dunsborough and stopped at the Wardan Aboriginal Culture Centre.

From there, we continued in a mostly southern direction to Cape Leeuwin and climbed the tallest mainland lighthouse in Australia.
The view from the top.  We're looking at the convergence of two oceans.
Southern (that's Antarctic to some of us).
In the chilly Southern Ocean.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING from Pemberton, Western Australia

We drove from Dunsborough yesterday.  I had to remove the map so that I could get to the blog.  Terrible internet again.  We'll post as soon as we can.

Ngigli Cave and other things

On Tuesday, the 23rd, we visited Ngigli Cave (it reminded me of Kartchner, except for it's story), tasted many wines and watched the moon rise over the Indian Ocean.  We're in a Santa Barbara-like place here - the sun and moon rise and set over the ocean.
These colors are natural!
Pretty winery flowers and building art.
Our Lunch table.
Moon Rising.
