Night Blooming Cereus

We went to Tohono Chul Park at 9 p.m. and walked among the luminaria to see these amazing cactus that bloom for a 10 - 12 hour period one time a year. This year half of their Night Blooming Cereus bloomed in late May and the other half bloomed at the end of June. We had flashlights and it was cool - both literally and figuratively!

Check out the Gila Monster that was in out yard a couple of days ago. If you enlarge it, you'll see the beautiful markings.

We went hiking in Sabino Canyon last Saturday and our route was blocked. Normally, we can just step from stone to stone and cross this wash. The top picture is Sabino Canyon dam - usually just a trickle. We've had a couple of inches of rain in the last few days.
